§ 16. Temporary vacancies.

Any temporary vacancy in office created by suspension of the Mayor or a Councilmember by virtue of a grand jury presentment against that official shall be filled by a temporary appointment to such office for the period of such suspension. Such temporary appointment shall be made in the same manner and by the same authority by which permanent vacancies for such office are filled as provided in this charter. Upon the suspended official being acquitted or cleared of the charges contained in the indictment for reason of which he was suspended, he shall be restored to office if his term has not expired.
