§ 8-26. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    At large means off the premises of the owner and not under the control, custody, charge or possession of the owner, or other responsible person, either by leash, cord, chain or other form of physical constraint of sufficient strength to restrain the dog.

    Dog means any member of any breed of the species canis familiaris and shall include both male and female.

    Responsible party means any person owning, keeping, harboring or controlling a dog within the limits of the town. Further, wherever the words ``owner'' or ``person'' are used in this article, these words shall mean the responsible party.
