§ 35-46. Appointment; general duties.

  • The head of the Police Department shall be known as the Chief of Police who shall be appointed by the Town Council upon a majority vote of Councilmembers present and voting, but in no event shall there be less than three affirmative votes for the appointment of the Chief of Police. He shall execute the orders of the Town Council and serve, either in person or through a police officer of the department, all processes issued in the name of the town. He shall attend, in person or by deputy or other police officer, the municipal court during each of its sessions, execute the commands and processes of the court, personally or by any other police officer of the Police Department, aid in the enforcement of the orders of the court and perform such other duties as may be imposed upon him by law, the ordinances of the town, and the determination of the Town Council, consistent with the charter.
